The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Henry Musa Kpaka, has toured major poultry investments in Sierra Leone’s Northern and Northwestern regions as the Government continues to promote private-sector participation in the agriculture sector under the Feed Salone initiative.

During the tour, Minister Kpaka visited Big Things Poultry and Leecon Poultry, whose hatchery operations produce a combined 12,000 chicks weekly and provide employment for more than 500 people.

He also inspected the developing poultry facility of Beliyia Agricultural Investment Company Limited in Magbema Chiefdom, Kambia District. The project is being constructed on more than 100 acres and is expected to begin operations with an initial capacity of 250,000 birds, with provision for future expansion.

Once operational, the Beliyia project is expected to create more than 200 full-time employment opportunities, further contributing to local economic activity and the development of Sierra Leone’s poultry industry.

In Songo, Minister Kpaka visited Eco Poultry Farm, which is nearing completion. The facility is expected to accommodate an initial 80,000 layers, with plans to expand its capacity to 240,000 birds.

The farm is expected to receive its first flock of 20,000 chicks upon completion, marking another investment aimed at increasing domestic poultry production.

The Minister’s tour highlighted the growing involvement of private investors in Sierra Leone’s poultry sector, with investments contributing to employment, skills development, domestic food production and food security.

The developments also support the broader objectives of the Feed Salone agenda by strengthening local agricultural production and encouraging increased private-sector investment in the sector.
