The Government of Sierra Leone has placed a ban on foreign employers from traveling out of the country without clearance from the Sierra Leone Labour Commission.
The ban is in line with part IV section 26 of the Employment Act of 2023.
According to the act, the clearance is to ascertain the employer wishing to travel out of the country has no employment or labor obligations in Sierra Leone and the clearance should be renewed annually.
It is stated that any foreign employer who fails to obtain Labour Travelling Clearance will be denied exit out of the country.
“PART IV, Section 26 – Labour traveling clearance
(1) A non-Sierra Leonean employer who intends to travel out of Sierra Leone shall obtain labour traveling clearance from the Commissioner to ascertain that he has no employment or labor-related obligations in Sierra Leone and such clearance shall be renewed annually.
(2) A non-Sierra Leonean employer that fails to obtain Labour Travelling Clearance under subsection (1) shall be denied exit out of Sierra Leone”.
That’s a good one and it’s in place because some of these foreign employers have used to use our brothers and sisters after they have worked for them for years plus they just shoot down their company and go back to their country with out solving or settle the labour obligation between them and the workers of Sierra Leone
