President Joe Biden has nominated Bryan David Hunt, of Virginia, a Career Member of the Senior Foreign Service, Class of Minister-Counselor, to be the new Ambassador of the United States of America to the Republic of Sierra Leone.

According to the official website of the United States, Bryan Hunt, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, class of Minister Counselor, currently serves as the Senior Foreign Policy Advisor to the United States Transportation Command, Scott Air Force Base, IL.

Prior to that, Mr. Hunt, served as Director, Office of South Sudan and Sudan, Bureau of African Affairs, Department of State, Washington, D.C. and, also served as the State Department’s Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for East Africa and the Sudans.

Mr. Hunt’s overseas leadership roles include as Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassies in Maputo, Mozambique, Georgetown, Guyana and Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

Mr. Hunt’s keen intellect, extensive experience as a senior leader and policy maker and his deep familiarity with African issues make him well-qualified to serve as Ambassador to the Republic of Sierra Leone.

Earlier, Mr. Hunt served for six years in Pakistan, including as Consul General and Principal Officer of the U.S. Consulate General in Lahore and as Political Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad.  There he demonstrated his ability to work effectively even in the most difficult security environments and complex policy relationships.

Mr. Hunt also held assignments as Deputy Director for Regional Affairs, in the Office of Regional and Security Affairs in the State Department’s Africa Bureau and as the Desk Office for Angola, in the Office of Southern African Affairs and for Togo, Benin and Cote d’Ivoire in the Office of West African Affairs.  Overseas, Mr. Hunt served in the U.S. Embassies in Maputo, Mozambique, Bissau, Guinea-Bissau, and in Gaborone, Botswana.

Mr. Hunt earned his bachelor’s degree from American University, Washington D.C.  He speaks Portuguese, German and Urdu.  He was awarded the State Department’s Distinguished Honor Award and received numerous other State Department awards, as well as the Coast Guard Meritorious Public Service Award.
