A high-level delegation from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Lesotho and the Government of Lesotho has concluded an official mission to Sierra Leone aimed at gaining insights into the country’s governance, development, and sustainable financing initiatives.
The visit formed part of efforts to strengthen South-South cooperation by promoting the exchange of knowledge and best practices among African nations in advancing sustainable development.
During the mission, the delegation met with lawmakers at the Parliament of Sierra Leone, where discussions focused on the country’s governance framework and democratic institutions. The team also held engagements with officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to explore Sierra Leone’s diplomatic priorities and international cooperation efforts.
As part of the visit, the delegation toured the upcoming Tacugama Canopy Walkway, a flagship eco-tourism project that highlights Sierra Leone’s commitment to biodiversity conservation and sustainable tourism development.
According to UNDP Sierra Leone, the mission demonstrated how the organization is mobilizing development finance to support inclusive governance, strengthen peace and diplomacy, and promote environmental conservation across the country.
Officials noted that the exchange underscores the increasing role of South-South cooperation in driving sustainable development across the African continent. They added that by sharing experiences and innovative approaches, African countries can accelerate progress toward achieving their common development goals while building stronger regional partnerships.
