Gender Minister Mahoi Unveils Legal Reforms to Protect Women, Girls in Sierra Leone
Sahid Bangura Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs Dr Isata Mahoi has highlighted Government measures aimed at strengthening the protection and empowerment of women and girls.
Mahoi made the disclosure during the Civic Day USA Edition in New York, where she outlined legislative interventions intended to improve the position of women and girls in Sierra Leonean society.
She referenced measures covering areas including women’s land rights and the elimination of child marriage.
The Minister stressed the importance of creating an enabling environment in which women and girls can participate fully in national development.
Her presentation focused on the link between legal protection, access to opportunities and the broader participation of women and girls in the country’s social and economic development.
The gender agenda was among several national policy areas discussed during the Civic Day USA Edition, which brought government officials together with Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora.
Mahoi currently serves as Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs in Sierra Leone’s Cabinet.
