The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) has extended the deadline for the submission of Continuous Assessment and School-Based Scoring (CASS) records for pupils who sat the 2026 National Primary School Examination (NPSE), following widespread administrative failures by some primary school authorities.
The deadline, which was initially set for Thursday, 13 August 2026, has been extended by 24 hours, with the Ministry describing the extension as final.
According to the Ministry, 86 percent of the 1,927 NPSE results that remain unpublished are currently unavailable because some schools have failed to submit the required CASS scores.
CASS accounts for 10 percent of a pupil’s final examination grade and is considered an integral component of the assessment process. The Ministry warned that failure by schools to submit the scores could result in pupils losing marks they have legitimately earned and, consequently, affect their transition into secondary education.
The Ministry said it was particularly concerned that administrative failures by some school leaders were disadvantaging pupils who had fulfilled their academic responsibilities.
“Pupils have earned their marks, therefore, schools have a non-negotiable duty to register them,” the Ministry stated, stressing that it could not allow the failure of non-compliant schools to negatively affect learners.
While acknowledging that the majority of schools have complied with the CASS submission requirements, MBSSE said it remains committed to protecting the welfare and academic interests of all learners.
The Ministry also warned schools that the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) may impose charges for late data input.
It further cautioned that schools that fail to meet the revised deadline will face severe consequences, as the 24-hour extension will be the final opportunity for defaulting schools to submit the outstanding CASS records.
The Ministry has therefore urged all affected primary schools to take immediate action to ensure that the required scores are submitted within the revised deadline to prevent further delays in the publication of pupils’ NPSE results.
