As the world is celebrating World Radio today 13th February 2023, Sierra Leone’s Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary School Education (MBSSE) David Sengeh has said his Ministry is moving the Education Radio to a single frequency across the country.

The radio which used to be on different frequencies in different districts will get a single frequency of 95.3 to air its different educational programs including radio teaching.

The Minister also stated that the ministry will continue to use the radio for civic education, the promotion of peace, and the radio teaching program which was introduced in 2014 during the Ebola pandemic to help school-going pupils learn from home.

World Radio Day is an international day celebrated on 13 February each year. The Day was decided by UNESCO on 3 November 2011 during its 36th conference.

The theme for this year’s celebration is ‘Radio and Peace’ as radio stations are responsible to spread messages of peace to their listeners in the radio land.
