According to Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Prof. Philip John Kanu, six lecturers, including departmental heads, at the Milton Margai Technical University have been turned over to police on allegations of sexual harassment and soliciting s_ex in exchange for grades.

In an interview with AYV, Prof. Kanu confirmed that six of the lecturers and departmental heads admitted that they behaved unprofessionally, adding that there is no place for such lecturers at MMTU.

He further assured both male and female students that they will be protected at the University at all times.

The Vice Chancellor said that they didn’t just locked the lecturers up and sacked them like that, noting that they went through the process the University normally has in investigating such matter.

“They testified and brought their own witnesses, they questioned people they felt made false allegations against them, and at the end they accepted that they misbehaved,” he said.

Prof. Kanu further explained about the categories of lecturers that were sacked or dismissed, stating that the first ones they sacked are four in number, noting that two of them are guilty of changing students’ grades.

“They changed grades in a way that involved collecting monies from students. The students that are involved will also be punished,” he said.

The Principal continued that the second set of lecturers that were dismissed are those receiving salaries, but not coming to work for the past one year, noting that they tried to call them but their phones were switched off.

“We did not sacked them, we just removed their names from the voucher,” he said.

Prof. Kanu added that the final set of lecturers sacked are those six involved with sleeping with students.

He said that the lecturers threatened the students to sleep with them by telling them that they will have a clear pass or something that will make them not struggle to get their degrees or certificates, adding that some were also taking monies from the students while sleeping with them at the same time.

“These six lecturers have been arrested and put behind bars. They admitted to these allegations, saying that it is satan that led them into such act,” he said.
