The Acting Vice President of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) responsible for Country and Regional Operations, Dr Abdul B. Kamara, paid a courtesy call on Sierra Leone’s Minister of Finance, Sheku Ahmed Fantamadi Bangura, on Monday, July 20 July, 2026.
During their discussions, Dr Kamara emphasised the purpose of his visit: to review the AfDB’s interventions in Sierra Leone, assess the country’s project portfolio, and explore opportunities for financing priority national projects.
The two officials examined ongoing AfDB-funded initiatives in the energy, agriculture, and infrastructure sectors, as well as budget support and innovative financing mechanisms amid global financial and security uncertainties.
As part of his one-day mission, Dr Kamara also met with President Julius Maada Bio and visited the AfDB-supported Guma Valley facility in Regent, underscoring the Bank’s commitment to tangible development outcomes in Sierra Leone.
The Acting Vice President of the African Development Bank Group, Mr. Kamara, has more than three decades of experience in development finance and policy across Africa. He also serves as Director General of the Bank’s Nigeria Country Department, overseeing a $6.4 billion investment portfolio.
Finally, the visit signals a renewed push by the AfDB to strengthen its partnership with Sierra Leone, ensuring that critical sectors receive the support needed to drive sustainable growth.
