The Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs (MOGCA) has intensified efforts to strengthen gender accountability across government institutions with a Steering Committee meeting focused on implementing the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) Act 2022.
The meeting brought together representatives from various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to assess progress, examine implementation gaps and identify practical steps to ensure that gender equality and women’s empowerment remain central to government planning and programmes.
A major review focused on the 2025 Gender Accountability Framework Report, which allowed stakeholders to assess achievements, identify challenges and discuss areas requiring stronger institutional action.
Participants also shared experiences from their respective institutions and explored ways to improve gender-responsive planning, budgeting, programming and reporting.
The Committee began preparations for the 2026 Gender Accountability Framework Report, with discussions centred on establishing measurable results and strengthening accountability among MDAs.
MOGCA reaffirmed its commitment to working with government institutions to ensure that the provisions of the GEWE Act 2022 move beyond policy commitments and are effectively reflected in government programmes, budgets and institutional practices.
The Ministry said continued coordination, monitoring and accountability will be critical to advancing women’s empowerment, equal opportunities and inclusive development across Sierra Leone.
