Mohamed Kallon, a former footballer who played for Inter Milan and the Sierra Leone national team, has been elected as the new chairman of the National Football Heroes.
This announcement was made by Sierra Leone Premier League club FC Kallon on Sunday.
FC Kallon expressed their belief that Kallon’s dedication, passion, and leadership qualities have earned him this prestigious position. They extended their wishes for his tenure to be filled with success, unity, and remarkable achievements for the advancement of the sport.
Mohamed Kallon is widely recognized as one of the most popular Sierra Leonean footballers worldwide. He made his debut for the Leone Stars at the age of 15 in 1995, earning 39 caps and scoring 8 goals for the national team. Notably, he scored his first international goal in 1995, securing a victory against Congo in Freetown.
As a 5 feet 10 inches striker, Kallon became the youngest player in the 1996 AFCON Competition held in South Africa. He made a significant impact by scoring a goal in a 2-1 victory against Burkina Faso.
Kallon gained international recognition during his time at Serie A side Inter Milan. Although he had loan spells at various lower-tier Italian clubs such as Bologna, Genoa, and Cagliari, he made his breakthrough in the senior Inter Milan squad from 2001 to 2004, accumulating 45 caps and scoring 14 goals.
Additionally, Kallon had stints with AS Monaco, AEK Athens, and Al-Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League. He concluded his career by playing for the local club he purchased, FC Kallon, in 2014, after captaining the Leone Stars.
