Government Permanently Revokes Registration of 15 Non-Compliant NGOs
The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development has permanently revoked the registration certificates of 15 nongovernmental organizations after they failed to regularize their status within a 30-day compliance period.
In a public notice dated September 21, 2026, MoPED said the affected organizations were among 31 NGOs suspended on July 6 and July 13, respectively, and were given 30 days to address their regulatory status.
According to the ministry, 15 organizations failed to respond within the stipulated period or comply with requirements under the NGO Policy Framework. MoPED therefore de-registered the organizations and permanently revoked their certificates of registration under Section 15, which covers enforcement, compliance and sanctions.
The ministry said the affected organizations are no longer recognized as registered NGOs in Sierra Leone.
It also directed members of the public, development partners, international organizations and other NGOs not to have dealings with the de-registered organizations.
The organizations named in the ministry’s schedule are Paida Foundation, Activate Hope Sierra Leone, Women’s Association for National Development, Stitching Wango Sierra Leone and Fama Women’s Programme.
The list also includes Hakeem and Hakeema Charity Organization, Advocacy Initiative for Development, Community Action for Social Action, Center for Gender Governance & Development and Sudu Salone.
Life for African Mothers, Muyewoh Development Organization, The Salon Foundation, Global Advocate for Children in Armed Conflicts, int. Sierra Leone Chapter, and Home food General Services Organization-Sierra Leone complete the list.
MoPED said the regulatory action was taken to reinforce compliance with the legal and policy framework governing NGOs operating in the country.
The ministry maintained that the action was not intended to restrict civic space, but to strengthen accountability, transparency and effective service delivery while ensuring that organizations operating in Sierra Leone comply with established government policies.
The government’s NGO Policy Framework 2023–2028 assigns MoPED responsibility for NGO registration and maintaining records of registered organizations, including monitoring their relationships with government, donors and beneficiary communities.
