We Have Taken Musa Tarawally’s Matter to CID, Warrant May Follow – SLPP PRO Mambu
Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) Public Relations Officer Moses Mambu has disclosed that the party has referred statements involving former SLPP figure Hon. Alhaji Musa Tarawally and another individual to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), with investigators expected to seek a warrant from a magistrate in connection with the matter.
Mambu made the disclosure during a media interview on Tuesday, September 22, while responding to Tarawally’s rejection of an SLPP letter directing him to stop presenting himself as a member of the party.
According to Mambu, the party submitted a video and other statements to the CID, including statements he described as “very indicting” and which he said could relate to aspects of cyberbullying.
“We have therefore taken everything to the CID. The CID is actively investigating the matter,” Mambu said.
He further said he would return to the CID to continue giving his statement and indicated that efforts were being made to obtain a warrant from a magistrate to bring both Tarawally and another individual identified as Justice before the appropriate authorities.
Mambu said the purpose of the investigation was to clarify, in accordance with the law, statements allegedly made by the individuals involved.
He also cautioned against making allegations without evidence, stressing that public statements should be supported by facts.
“Anything you say must be supported by evidence. You cannot put people in trouble by making statements for which you have no evidence,” he said.
The SLPP PRO also referred to statements allegedly made about President Julius Maada Bio, describing some of the comments as negative and unfortunate. He said he could not determine what action the government might take but noted that the Minister of Justice and the Inspector General of Police had seen information circulating about the matter.
The CID’s reported involvement comes amid an ongoing dispute between Tarawally and the SLPP over his membership status.
The party recently issued a letter directing Tarawally to stop presenting himself as an SLPP member, while also claiming that he currently holds membership status with the Citizens Democratic Party (CDP).
Tarawally has rejected the claims as false and demanded that the SLPP retract the letter. He has also said he only became aware of the party’s communication after it appeared on social media.
Mambu maintained that the SLPP’s position was intended to clarify Tarawally’s status rather than provoke him. He said that if Tarawally wanted to return to the SLPP, he should regularise his membership and follow the party’s established procedures.
The SLPP PRO also addressed speculation about Tarawally’s reported interest in becoming the party’s flag-bearer. He argued that even if Tarawally regularised his membership, the status he claimed would not qualify him to contest for the position under the party’s constitution.
Mambu said Tarawally described himself in his five-page response as a “Grand Chief Patron,” but maintained that the party’s constitution requires a person seeking to qualify as a flag-bearer candidate to have attained the position of “Distinguished Grand Chief Patron.”
“Even based on the letter he issued, he is not a Distinguished Grand Chief Patron of the SLPP,” Mambu said.
The allegations and claims made by Mambu regarding the CID investigation and any potential warrant remain statements from the SLPP PRO; any decision to issue a warrant would rest with the relevant judicial authorities.
The dispute is now before the police, according to Mambu, with the CID expected to determine whether the statements submitted to investigators warrant further legal action.
