State House Communications Director Says President Bio Has Created Over 260,000 Jobs
Aminata Koroma Myk Berewa, Director of Communications at State House, has stated in an interview on Epic Radio that President Julius Maada Bio’s administration has created over 260,000 jobs since taking office.
Berewa emphasized that the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) remains in governance, noting that “you have to create the opportunity before the availability.” He added that job creation should not be measured only by blue-collar work, pointing out that “there are a lot of jobs we’ve created in this country,” including roles in surveys, NASSIT, and NaCSA.
“When you collate all data and labour figures, the numbers reflect ongoing progress,” Berewa said. “Where we want to be, we still have three years; therefore, judge us at the end of our tenure.”
He explained that, ideally, Sierra Leone needs to create at least 71,000 jobs annually, but the government currently generates about 40,000 to 41,000 jobs per year.
“So if you calculate 41,000 by the seven years that we’ve been in power, we’ve created over 260,000 jobs in this country. We will continue to do more,” he concluded.
Berewa also referenced the Ministry of Labour’s new dashboard, which tracks job creation and provides data on employment opportunities for citizens.
