Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of NASSIT, Isata Marrah, led a delegation of Board members, NASSIT management, and SEMCo to inspect the Sewa Grounds Market facility to evaluate its readiness for operationalisation on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.

The General Manager of the Sierra Estate Management Company (SEMCo), Lansana Koroma, apprised the Board of the latest developments, providing a detailed report on progress towards achieving full occupancy, noting that prospective tenants have secured 99% of the facility, and that there is a significant demand for the available spaces. Mr Koroma spoke about the ongoing meetings with the traders to facilitate a seamless transition into the new market environment.

Speaking on the infrastructure, the General Manager stated that seven out of ten action items on the construction snag list have been successfully addressed. However, he also highlighted the significant challenge of unauthorized street trading along Rawdon Street and Garrison Street, for which he urged the NASSIT Board to collaborate with relevant authorities to clear these streets and establish a fair and organized trading environment.

The Board Chairperson, Madam Isata Marrah, praised the overall progress and quality of the market, and expressed her positive impression, while extending her sincere gratitude to the NASSIT Director General, management team, and SEMCo for their excellent work.

On concerns about street trading, Madam Marrah assured the team that she would personally engage stakeholders and authorities to facilitate the clearance of Rawdon Street and Garrison Street.

The Deputy Director General in charge of Administration, Mohammed Gondoe, thanked the Chairperson of the Board for her commendable sentiments and unwavering support to the NASSIT management team, and assured her that Management would take all necessary measures to rectify any emerging issues before the scheduled operational date.

Finally, the meeting concluded with a comprehensive physical inspection of the entire market facility, allowing the Board to view the market stalls, warehouses, and amenities firsthand.
