The leadership of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT), led by Director General Chernor Mamoud Jalloh and Deputy Director General Mohamed Bangura, has briefed the newly appointed Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security, Umaru Napoleon Koroma Esq., on the institution’s key programmes, operational priorities and work plans.
The engagement took place on Monday, September 7, 2026, and formed part of efforts to strengthen coordination between NASSIT and the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security in advancing social protection and workers’ welfare across Sierra Leone.
During the meeting, NASSIT’s leadership outlined its ongoing programmes and priorities, while emphasising the importance of maintaining close institutional collaboration to ensure the effective implementation of policies and initiatives within the labour and social security sector.
Minister Koroma welcomed the NASSIT delegation and commended the institution for its continued commitment to implementing its work plans. He expressed his willingness to work closely with NASSIT, noting that a coordinated and team-oriented approach would be critical to achieving meaningful reforms.
The Minister also stressed the need for ongoing reforms and initiatives to be effectively implemented to expand and strengthen social security protection for workers in both the formal and informal sectors.
The engagement reaffirmed the shared commitment of the Ministry and NASSIT to improving institutional efficiency, strengthening workers’ protection and promoting more inclusive social security coverage.
Both institutions are expected to continue working together to deliver on their respective mandates and contribute to a more responsive labour and social security system that supports workers, economic participation and the broader welfare of Sierra Leoneans.
