NASSIT Director General Gets Update on 108.4MW NANT Power Project
The Director General of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT), Chernor Mamoud Jalloh, has led a high-level delegation on a tour of the NANT Power Project at Kissy Dockyard in Freetown.
The visit aimed to familiarise the delegation with the project’s background, operations, workforce and implementation progress, including plans for expansion beyond Freetown.
Welcoming the delegation, NANT Executive Director Karim Nasser expressed appreciation for the visit and congratulated the NASSIT Board Chairperson and Director General on their respective appointments. He said the engagement provided an opportunity to brief the delegation on the project’s progress and ongoing development.
During a presentation, NANT Administration and Logistics Manager Peter Kamuray explained that the project involves the construction of a 108.4-megawatt (MW) liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) combined-cycle power plant at Kissy Dockyard.

Upon completion, the facility is expected to supply reliable baseload electricity to the national grid, serving Freetown and the Western Area. The project is also expected to support economic growth, strengthen national energy security and reduce emissions.
Kamuray disclosed that the project currently employs 740 people, including 597 Sierra Leoneans. He assured the delegation that NANT was fully compliant with its NASSIT obligations and continued to pay social security contributions on behalf of its employees.
The visit highlights NASSIT’s commitment to engaging with employers, understanding their operations and promoting compliance with social security contribution requirements. Through such engagements, the Trust aims to protect workers’ social security rights and safeguard their future benefits.
