The National Task Force on Drugs and Substance Abuse (NaTFDSA) joined stakeholders at the graduation of 98 rehabilitation ambassadors in Gondama and Daru.
48 male ambassadors graduated in Gondama, followed by 50 male ambassadors in Daru on 8 July 2026.
The ceremonies, led by the Ministry of Social Welfare and the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), brought together stakeholders, parents and community members to celebrate the ambassadors’ recovery journey.
Speaking at the ceremonies, Abdul Mbawa of the NPHA emphasised the importance of sustained support after rehabilitation. “Recovery goes beyond rehabilitation. We must support these ambassadors to successfully reintegrate into their families and communities and become advocates for a drug-free Sierra Leone,” he said.
Director Ansumana Konneh of the Ministry of Social Welfare highlighted the need for stronger reintegration opportunities. “These ambassadors deserve opportunities to rebuild their lives. Government, partners, families and communities must work together to provide livelihood, psychosocial and other reintegration support,” he stated.
Additionally, the graduating ambassadors also called on the Government and partners to invest more in reintegration, livelihood and psychosocial support.
With all 98 graduates being male, stakeholders encouraged women affected by drug and substance use to access available rehabilitation services and called for greater efforts to address barriers affecting female participation.
