Umaru Ndomahina Wins Taiama Section Chieftaincy Election in Moyamba
Chief Umaru Ndomahina has been elected Section Chief of Taiama, the chiefdom headquarters of Kori Chiefdom in Moyamba District, following a competitive chieftaincy election held on Saturday, October 24, 2026.
The election, which took place at the N.A. Court Barray in Taiama, brought an end to approximately three months of intense campaigning among three candidates vying for the prestigious traditional leadership position.
Despite the tense campaign period, the election was described as free, fair and credible, with the candidates competing for the support of the chiefdom’s recognised Tribal Authorities (TAs).
According to the gazetted list, 81 Tribal Authorities were officially eligible to vote. However, 68 cast their ballots during the election. Of the votes cast, 67 were declared valid, while one ballot was rejected as invalid.
The final results showed that Chief Umaru Ndomahina secured a commanding victory with 43 votes. Madam Florence Adama Gbaya, the only female candidate in the race, received 17 votes, while Chief Timmy Bindi obtained three votes.

Following the announcement of the results, the District Officer of Moyamba District, Mr. Samura, officially declared Chief Umaru Ndomahina the winner of the Taiama Section chieftaincy election.
Chief Ndomahina’s victory marks a significant moment in the traditional leadership of Taiama, a major town within Kori Chiefdom.
The election followed months of campaigning and public interest in the candidates’ leadership ambitions. The peaceful conclusion of the process is expected to provide an opportunity for reconciliation among supporters of the three candidates and renewed attention to the development priorities of Taiama.

As the newly elected Section Chief prepares to assume his traditional leadership responsibilities, residents will be looking forward to leadership that promotes unity, peace, accountability and development throughout the section.
