NPHA Strengthens Ebola Preparedness at Jendema Border Crossing
The National Public Health Agency (NPHA) has conducted a monitoring visit to the Jendema Point of Entry (PoE) in Pujehun District to assess and strengthen preparedness for Ebola and other high-consequence infectious diseases.
The visit focused on evaluating local surveillance and response capabilities at the border crossing, particularly measures designed to prevent, detect and respond to potential disease outbreaks.
During the assessment, the NPHA technical team reviewed several operational areas, including routine health screening procedures, border surveillance activities, infection prevention and control (IPC) standards, and the use of the Sierra Leone Health Travel Portal.
As part of efforts to strengthen frontline capacity, the Agency provided IPC supplies and equipment to Port Health personnel to support their work in maintaining safety standards while facilitating cross-border movement.
NPHA officials emphasised that strengthening surveillance at major points of entry, including Jendema, remains an important part of Sierra Leone’s national health security efforts.
The monitoring exercise forms part of the Agency’s ongoing efforts to improve disease preparedness, strengthen border surveillance and equip frontline health workers to detect and respond to potential public health threats.
