In separate letters dated 29th October, 2021 the Chief Executive of NPPA (National Public Procurement Authority), Ibrahim Brima Swaray has approved price increment for rice suppliers to the Sierra Leone Police Force, the Ministry of Defense and the Sierra Leone Correctional Service.

Speaking to the Global Times yesterday, Mr. Swaray said that he acted based on a request sent to him by the above-mentioned institutions and the rice suppliers.

For the Sierra Leone Correctional Service, Mr. Swaray said that he authorized a price increment for Le307,000 to Le365,000 for a bag of 50KG rice based on the quality of the grain until the contract expires. This is in line with the request made by the supplier.

According to the NPPA Chief Executive, the increment which he authorized for the Sierra Leone Police and the Ministry of Defense was based on the change of specifications.

He explained that both institutions had requested for high quality rice which normally attracts high prices. Mr Swaray’s approval means that the price of rice per bag of a 50KG rice will now be sold to both institutions for Le415,000.

Global Times reported that, both institutions will now be supplied high quality rice for the increment to be affected. “This increment is in line with the request from the suppliers based on the current market conditions”, according to Mr. Swaray.

The NPPA boss insisted that, “The Authority will closely monitor this procurement activity to ensure that the new contract price and modification communicated to NPAA is strictly followed”.
