NRA, SICPA Equip Clearing Agencies to Tackle Tax Evasion
The Excise Unit of the Domestic Tax Department at the National Revenue Authority (NRA), in collaboration with SICPA, on Thursday, 27 August 2026, conducted a one-day training and sensitization session for clearing and forwarding agencies on the importance, use, and benefits of excise tax stamps.
The session, held at Dove’s Nest in Murray Town, Freetown, focused on strengthening stakeholders’ understanding of the proper use and handling of excise tax stamps.
Speaking at the session, Excise Unit Manager Mustapha Fofanah highlighted excise tax stamps as an important revenue assurance and compliance tool. He explained that the stamps help the NRA monitor excisable products, reduce tax evasion, smuggling and counterfeiting, and improve product traceability.
Fofanah encouraged clearing and forwarding agencies to understand their responsibilities and comply with established procedures when handling excisable goods.
During the engagement, Alhaji Amadu Kondeh, SICPA Service Centre Technician, delivered a technical presentation on the proper handling, application, and verification of excise tax stamps. He also addressed operational challenges stakeholders may encounter in the process.
