The Clerk of Parliament, Hon. Paran Tarawally has announced that the controversial Parliament Act entitled: “The Parliament Act 2023”. will be re-introduced and debated on Wednesday, 19th April 2023.

The bill was recently withdrawn from Parliament after opposition MPs protested following a withdrawal motion by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament and seconded by the Head of Government Affairs, is  proposing that outgoing Speakers of Parliament should retain one of their official vehicles, and be entitled to a monthly pension of 80% of their salary, and the payment of a one-off US$50 thousand to one-term MPs as their pension.

The purpose of the said bill is to codify existing laws and other acts done by and on behalf of the Parliament over the years and to provide for the general administration of the Parliament of the Republic of Sierra Leone and other related matters.

Following directives from the Office of the Clerk of Parliament, the Clerk of Parliament is inviting the General Public and Other Interested Persons to come to Parliament on Wednesday 19/04/2023, at 10:00 AM in the Chamber of Parliament to witness the debate on the re-introduction of the Bill.
