The ECOWAS Female Parliamentarians (ECOFEPA) have rolled out a solidarity engagement meeting to push out the women empowerment and the GEWE Act in Sierra Leone.
The meeting was in support of the increased and effective participation of women in politics in Sierra Leone, occasioned by the enactment of the GEWE Act.
According to ECOWAS, reducing gender gaps is a development issue.
EU Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Manuel Muller stressed the importance of the female quota.
‘’The quota is one important element, which contributes to a level playing field for women in the upcoming elections,’’ he said.
The symposium aims to sensitize the public on the proportional representation of women in politics, scaling up political partnerships between men and women.
According to them it also intends to unleash the potential of women and youth in politics and entrepreneurship.
