The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has responded to a letter from the All Peoples Congress (APC) notifying them of their intention to hold a peaceful march to the offices of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL).
In the letter, the IGP acknowledged receiving the APC’s correspondence and emphasized the importance of informing the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) at least 72 hours in advance for proper planning.
The IGP expressed regret that the notification was received late, specifically via Whatsapp on Saturday, June 17, 2023. As a result, the APC has been invited to a meeting with the Inspector General of Police and his senior management team at Police Headquarters on Monday, June 19, 2023, at 1300 hours.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss various aspects of the planned procession, including the expected number of participants, the proposed time, and the route, among other logistical considerations.
While awaiting the meeting, the APC has been encouraged to engage with the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) and deliver a position paper to the ECSL.
The police authorities assured the APC of their cooperation and reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and order during the proposed march.
The meeting between the APC and the Inspector General of Police is anticipated to facilitate constructive dialogue and effective coordination to ensure the smooth conduct of the planned peaceful march.
As APC has no respect for women, education, development, and the rule of law, they have no respect for authority. Hence, without properly giving a 72-hour notice, they plan a demonstration five days to the elections. From their past demonstrations, it’s not lost on anyone that the planned demonstration will be nothing short of violence and mayhem from their supporters. They should be denied for failure to give proper notice and to the appropriate authority in the appropriate time and format.
APC remains the only part that has uphold the peace of this country, So if you are talking about violence check your self properly
This letter sent to the police for a so-called peaceful march to the ECSL office at Tower hill is a sham . The original press meeting by Samura Kamara called for the resignation of all the Commissioners and with their chairman with immediate effect and gave 72hrs grace period to do so failing that, there will be a nation-wide protest in the country. How and why has this changed to a peaceful march ? Looking at the short notice to the police at this critical time makes no sense , if allowed will spark chaos .
The police should not listen to these apc useless vagabonds, they are enemies of peace.
.
I see no reason requesting permission for a peaceful march… and the response from these politically aligned PAOPA police is not unexpected.
Every organized march (purporting to be peaceful) even here in the United States must obtain police clearance to conduct the march. Those who say there’s no reason to obtain permission for a peaceful march fail to see that miscreants lawless individuals would use the opportunity to destroy lives and properties. Something APC is well known for. Permission means the police had ample time to consider the leadership of the crowd, size, and the path the crowd will take, and adequately prepare to ensure the march goes peacefully according to plan. Absent this preparation, this ample notice and preparation, the march is denied. De game geh yagba! If you noh able pull an!
True Sierra Leoneans will know where to put their eminent votes this time guys
