The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has responded to a letter from the All Peoples Congress (APC) notifying them of their intention to hold a peaceful march to the offices of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL).

In the letter, the IGP acknowledged receiving the APC’s correspondence and emphasized the importance of informing the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) at least 72 hours in advance for proper planning.

The IGP expressed regret that the notification was received late, specifically via Whatsapp on Saturday, June 17, 2023. As a result, the APC has been invited to a meeting with the Inspector General of Police and his senior management team at Police Headquarters on Monday, June 19, 2023, at 1300 hours.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss various aspects of the planned procession, including the expected number of participants, the proposed time, and the route, among other logistical considerations.

While awaiting the meeting, the APC has been encouraged to engage with the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) and deliver a position paper to the ECSL.

The police authorities assured the APC of their cooperation and reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and order during the proposed march.

The meeting between the APC and the Inspector General of Police is anticipated to facilitate constructive dialogue and effective coordination to ensure the smooth conduct of the planned peaceful march.
