Police Launch Nationwide Crackdown on Unauthorised Vehicle Lights
Sorie Abubakar The Sierra Leone Police have launched a nationwide operation targeting the use of unauthorised and excessively bright lights on vehicles.
Director of Traffic, Commissioner Abdul Moijueh, said the operation is aimed at curbing the growing use of coloured LED lights, flashing lights, excessively bright headlamps and other decorative lighting fitted to vehicles.
According to the Commissioner, such lights can distract or temporarily blind pedestrians and other road users, increasing the risk of road traffic accidents.
The Police said the operation is being conducted in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) and is in line with the Road Traffic Regulations of 2011.
The authorities have urged drivers and other road users to comply with the regulations and remove unauthorised lighting from their vehicles.
The Police also called on the public to take the directive seriously as enforcement continues across the country, warning that failure to comply could result in enforcement action.
