The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) has called on the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) to speedily look into the alleged beating of members of the main opposition, All People’s Congress (APC) by security personnel on Monday 20 February 2023.

PPRC made this call in a letter written to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), William Fayia Sellu.

It was alleged that on Monday 20th February 2023, security officers of President Bio physically assaulted members of the APC including the newly elected Secretary General of the APC, and his driver, and the laptop of the Mayor of Freetown, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr was seized from her.

As a commission regulating the affairs of political parties in the country, the PPRC stated that their attention was drawn to social media footage of physical attacks on members and supporters of the APC allegedly by security personnel.

We urged the police to speedily investigate these claims and appropriate actions taken against the perpetrators, if substantiated,” the Commission stated.
