New Provincial and Cross-Border Transport Fares Announced as Fuel Prices Increase
Sia Lucy Kannah The Ministry of Transport and Aviation has announced an upward adjustment in transport fares for provincial and cross-border routes, following the latest increase in fuel prices to NLe45.00 per litre.
According to the Ministry, the revised tariff represents a 12.5% increase across key transit routes, affecting public buses operated by the Sierra Leone Road Transport Corporation (SLRTC), private transport operators, and other commercial transport services.
Under the newly released fare structure, long-distance fares for buses travelling from Freetown to various parts of the country have been adjusted.
The Freetown–Kailahun fare has increased from NLe351.00 to NLe394.90, while Freetown–Kono has risen from NLe266.80 to NLe300.20.
Similarly, the fare from Freetown to Kabala has increased from NLe224.60 to NLe252.70, while Freetown–Kenema has moved from NLe210.60 to NLe236.90.
The Freetown–Bo and Freetown–Moyamba routes have both increased from NLe182.50 to NLe205.30.
Meanwhile, fares from Freetown to Makeni, Kambia and Port Loko have been adjusted from NLe168.50 to NLe189.60.
The fare for Freetown–Matru/Bonthe has risen from NLe196.60 to NLe221.20, while Freetown–Lunsar has increased from NLe126.40 to NLe142.20.
The Ministry said inter-district transport routes serving major regional centres, including Kenema, Bo and Makeni, have also been adjusted in line with the revised tariff guidelines.
