Sierra Leonean public health expert Patrick Hansil Lansana has been elected to a key regional position within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), in recognition of his contributions to Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE), Behavioural Intelligence, and Infodemic Management.
The election highlights Lansana’s growing role in strengthening public health communication systems and emergency preparedness efforts in Sierra Leone and across the West African region.
According to colleagues, Lansana played a significant role in the development and advancement of Sierra Leone’s Behavioural Intelligence and Infodemic Management (BIIM) system, which supports community-centred and evidence-based approaches during public health emergencies.
A statement announcing his election noted that his work had earned him the confidence and respect of public health professionals across the ECOWAS region.
Officials said the appointment represents recognition of Sierra Leone’s growing expertise in RCCE, epidemic intelligence, public health preparedness, and emergency response.
