The Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) has recognised personnel of the 14th Infantry Battalion stationed at Maple Leaf Barracks, Pujehun District, with Long Service and Good Conduct Awards, in an award ceremony aimed at honouring exemplary dedication, discipline, and long-standing commitment to service.
The ceremony, which was held on Friday, 17 April 2026, brought together top-ranking military officers, representatives from sister forces, district stakeholders, women and youth groups, and the press.
Giving an overview of the event, the Battalion Commander, First Female Commander Lieutenant Colonel Alice Sesay, explained that the awardees have served the RSLAF for over 15 years, with remarkable service records beginning from their respective dates of attestation.
According to Lieutenant Cornell Sesay, the award was not only meant to celebrate years served, but also to commend those who have maintained an unblemished full-time service, a clear disciplinary record, and an excellent reputation—all reflecting professionalism, loyalty, and strong commitment to duty.


She further stated that the process of selection was based on conduct, discipline, and the overall service standing of the personnel, emphasizing that the award is a recognition of character and dedication as much as it is a reflection of time served.
Lieutenant Cornell Sesay disclosed that *54 personnel* were qualified for consideration for the awards, comprising:
1 Lieutenant Colnnel
6 Warrant Officer Class One
11 Staff Sergeant
20 Sergeant
15 Corporal
1 Lance Corporal


Expressing satisfaction with the gesture, Paramount Chief of Kpanga Chiefdom, PC Andrew Ibrahim Jiah Kaikai, commended the battalion commander for the initiative and encouraged officers to recognize that hard work pays.
He urged the awardees to continue serving the nation with diligent love and respect for leadership’s, while also emphasizing the need to protect the general citizenry of Sierra Leone.


The ceremony climaxed with the presentation of the medals to the awardees, as speakers from different sectors delivered supportive remarks aimed at reaffirming the values of discipline, dedication, and service to the nation.
