A viral video making the rounds on Social Media has implicated Sabco Fishing Company over illegal abstraction of electricity following recent raid by EDSA staff.

Meanwhile, The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) reminded the general public of the repercussions associated with stealing electricity and non-payment of bills.

EDSA highlighted the ongoing problem of “meter tampering” and “direct tapping” of electricity lines, negatively impacting the authority’s ability to provide reliable power.

Citing the National Electricity Act of 2011, EDSA stressed that tampering with electricity meters or installations is a crime punishable by a fine of at least 50,000 Leones or imprisonment, or both.

EDSA said it will intensify conducting routine nationwide exercises, monitoring and inspecting premises and business establishments to ensure the legitimacy of electricity installations. Customers found guilty of illicitly abstracting or stealing electricity will face immediate disconnection, public exposure, and legal prosecution.

The notice further encouraged the public to report any suspected cases of electricity theft to EDSA through the provided contact numbers (672 or 079-695104) or the nearest police station.
