Communities in Moyamba District are strengthening local savings groups under the NOURISH & THRIVE Project, with a focus on improving household financial resilience and supporting nutrition.
According to SEND Sierra Leone, the project is funded by the World Food Programme and is being implemented in Kaiyamba Chiefdom, Foyah Junction and Molumbay.
The organization said community engagements have introduced residents to Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs), which enable members to make regular savings and access small loans to meet household needs.
SEND Sierra Leone also engaged Mother Support Groups to discuss how the savings initiative can be effectively integrated into community structures.
The organization said existing VSLA members are receiving refresher training to strengthen their capacity to continue saving, while new members are being encouraged to join the groups.
SEND Sierra Leone said the initiative is intended to go beyond household savings by helping families build financial resilience, expanding opportunities for women and contributing to improved nutrition at the household level.
The project forms part of SEND Sierra Leone’s broader community development and nutrition-related work. The organization describes its portfolio as including community development, health, nutrition and agriculture, WaSH, and women’s empowerment.
SEND Sierra Leone said the ongoing activities in Moyamba are aimed at helping communities strengthen their ability to save, access financial support and improve household well-being.
