Music, Fashion, Food: Chief Minister Sengeh Celebrates ‘Made in Sierra Leone’ During Festive Season
Aminata Koroma Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh has underscored the growing global influence of African culture, saying the rhythm and vibe in major cities worldwide are increasingly shaped by “African drums, clay, threads and seeds.”
He explained that, especially in December, he has intentionally consumed mostly African and Sierra Leonean products. He cited music genres such as Afrobeats, Krio fusion, and traditional sounds, clothing from African and Sierra Leonean designers, and locally sourced food.
According to Sengeh, this shift is more than a trend — it reflects a deepening commitment to identity and heritage. “It’s not New Year’s Day yet,” he noted, “but I have a feeling my resolution will be rooted here in Salone.”
He also highlighted the role of young people in driving cultural innovation and called for broader efforts to promote and celebrate their creativity. “How do we amplify and celebrate our cultural creativity and innovation powered by our youth?” he asked, encouraging national reflection and engagement.
