Sierra Leone Ranked 57th Globally, 5th Most Peaceful in Africa in 2025 Global Peace Index
Aaron Parker Sierra Leone has been ranked 57th out of 163 countries in the Global Peace Index 2025, highlighting the nation’s ongoing progress in peacebuilding and inclusive governance.
The announcement was made during the Ministry of Information and Civic Education’s weekly press briefing by Moses Margao, Deputy Executive Secretary of the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion (ICPNC).
According to Margao, the ranking positions Sierra Leone as the 5th most peaceful country in Africa, 2nd in West Africa, and 1st in the Mano River Union sub-region.
He attributed the improvement to the government’s sustained commitment to national dialogue, political stability, and community cohesion initiatives, including the collaborative efforts with the All People’s Congress (APC) to maintain harmony after recent elections.
“The enhanced ranking reflects growing international recognition of Sierra Leone’s progress in conflict resolution, democratic consolidation, and inclusive governance,” Margao said. He also highlighted the successful implementation of the eight resolutions outlined in the Agreement for National Unity, signed in October 2023, as a key factor in fostering stability.
The Ministry of Information and Civic Education reaffirmed that these achievements align with President Julius Bio’s vision of consolidating peace and unity as fundamental pillars for national development.
Officials encouraged citizens to continue supporting dialogue, tolerance, and respect for democratic processes, which remain vital to sustaining the country’s positive trajectory on the global stage.
