Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh has joined five other West African countries in the Rice Financing Roundtable – Scaling Innovative Finance for Competitive Rice Value Chains, for the launch of a $5 million Rice Investment Facility at the Africa Food Systems Forum 2026 in Kigali.

During the launch, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr Musa Kpaka, explained the opportunities available for private sector participation along with the country’s other partners.

In the discussions, EBID committed $100m to kickstart the fund while AfDB, IFAD, World Bank and others pledged their commitment to the Facility through their instruments. Others pledged technical assistance and more.

According to Sengeh, the Sierra Leone Government is already spending about $100m to set up Rice Zones and agro-processing clusters. He added that the government have expanded road access and built bridges to connect farms to markets. He also said Sierra Leone, through government policies, has created incentives and concessions for companies that will take advantage of these instruments.

Sengeh disclosed using the opportunity to invite partners in the room to the upcoming West Africa Integration and Investment Summit in November, happening in Sierra Leone.
