Sierra Leone has successfully concluded the 69th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government in Lungi, Port Loko District, with West African leaders renewing their commitment to regional unity, peace, democratic governance and sustainable development.
The high-level summit, hosted at the newly constructed Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre, brought together Heads of State and Government, senior government officials and regional stakeholders to deliberate on key issues affecting the ECOWAS sub-region.
Discussions focused on strengthening regional security, deepening economic integration, promoting intra-regional trade, addressing youth unemployment and enhancing cooperation among member states in response to emerging challenges.
One of the key outcomes of the summit was the commissioning of the ECOWAS Logistics Depot in Lungi. The facility is expected to strengthen the regional bloc’s operational readiness by improving logistics coordination and supporting peace, security and humanitarian response efforts across West Africa.
Throughout the summit, leaders reaffirmed their collective resolve to promote democratic governance, preserve peace and stability, and accelerate the implementation of policies aimed at advancing regional integration and shared prosperity.
The successful hosting of the 69th ECOWAS Summit marks another significant diplomatic milestone for Sierra Leone, reinforcing the country’s growing role in fostering dialogue, cooperation and unity within the West African region.
The summit concluded with a renewed call for stronger collaboration among ECOWAS member states to address common challenges and build a more peaceful, resilient and economically integrated West Africa.
