Sierra Leone Government Set to Host Civic Townhall in New York Today
The Government of Sierra Leone is set to host a special Civic Day Town Hall in New York on Thursday, September 24, 2026, as part of efforts to extend its civic engagement and national dialogue to Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora.
The event, organised through the Ministry of Information and Civic Education, is scheduled to take place at 4:00 p.m. at In Daylight Studio, 450 W 31st Street, 10th Floor, New York, during the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The Ministry has urged members of the public, particularly Sierra Leoneans in the United States, to participate in the town hall by registering and submitting questions for Ministers ahead of the event.
According to information released by the Ministry, the New York engagement is being held under the Government’s #SaloneBigPassWiAll campaign and is intended to provide a platform for citizens to interact directly with government representatives and contribute to discussions on national issues.
The Civic Day USA Edition forms part of the Ministry’s broader Civic Day Series, which has been used as a platform for dialogue between government officials and citizens on issues relating to governance, development, public services and other national priorities.
The New York town hall extends that engagement to the Sierra Leonean diaspora at a time when the country is participating in UNGA 81, bringing together government officials, citizens and other stakeholders in the United States.
The Ministry has encouraged interested participants to register in advance and submit questions through the designated registration platform, allowing members of the public to raise issues directly with participating Ministers.
The initiative follows previous Civic Day engagements organised by the Ministry, including diaspora-focused activities. The Ministry has described the Civic Day Series as a platform for two-way communication, enabling citizens to receive information from government while also raising questions, concerns and views on matters of national interest.
The September 24 event is therefore expected to provide Sierra Leoneans in New York and other members of the diaspora with an opportunity to engage government representatives directly and participate in the continuing national conversation.
