Sierra Leone Embassy in Saudi Arabia Mourns Death of Long-Serving Staff Member Mohamed Sandy Demby

The Embassy of Sierra Leone in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is mourning the death of Mohamed Sandy Demby, a long-serving member of staff who served as Chief Security Officer to the Ambassador of Sierra Leone in Riyadh.

Mr Demby passed away in the early hours of Thursday, August 13, 2026, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Mr Demby served the Sierra Leone Embassy for more than two decades, earning the respect of colleagues for his loyalty, professionalism, and commitment to duty.

During his years of service, he was entrusted with the responsibility of providing security to the Ambassador and supporting the work of the diplomatic mission.

He is survived by his wife and five children.

Ambassador Mohamed Barrie, Deputy Ambassador Abdul Aziz Turay, Head of Chancery Alhaji Ahmed Tejan Kabba, and the entire Embassy staff have expressed their condolences to Mr Demby’s family following his death.

According to the Embassy, Janaza prayers will be held after Juma prayers on Friday, August 14, at King Khalid Mosque in Umm Al-Hammam, Riyadh.

The prayers will be followed by his burial at Riyadh Northern Cemetery.

The Embassy has called on colleagues, friends and members of the Sierra Leonean community to pray for the peaceful repose of Mr Demby’s soul in Jannatul Firdaus and for strength and comfort for his bereaved family.
