Sierra Leone is participating in the 8th Korea-Africa Economic Cooperation (KOAFEC) Ministerial Conference in Seoul, South Korea, with Deputy Minister of Finance Hon. Kadiatu Allie representing the country at the high-level economic gathering.
The conference is taking place from September 8 to 11, 2026, bringing together African and Korean ministers, senior government officials, development partners, private sector representatives and experts to discuss economic cooperation and Africaโs digital transformation.
Deputy Minister Allie is accompanied by Mr Morrie Momoh, Deputy Financial Secretary at the Ministry of Finance.

The Sierra Leonean delegation was received in Seoul by Sierra Leoneโs Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, H.E. Paul Sobba Massaquoi, alongside Counsellor Agnes Mbayo and First Secretary Musu Martha Langley of the Embassy.
Established in 2006, the KOAFEC Ministerial Conference provides a platform for policy dialogue and economic cooperation between Korea and African countries, with support from the African Development Bank Group.
The 8th conference is placing particular emphasis on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital infrastructure as tools for economic transformation, innovation, productivity and sustainable development.
Discussions are expected to cover areas including digital connectivity, digital public infrastructure, innovation and entrepreneurship, digital skills development and the application of AI across strategic sectors.
These include agriculture, healthcare, education, finance and public administration.
The conference also provides African countries with an opportunity to learn from South Koreaโs experience in digital transformation and explore how its expertise can support Africaโs development priorities.
During her participation, Deputy Minister Allie is expected to engage with Korean and African counterparts on strategic economic cooperation, development financing and investment opportunities.
Particular attention will be given to AI, digital transformation and technology-driven development, areas that are increasingly becoming important to economic planning and public-sector development.
Mr Momoh will also participate in the engagements, contributing to discussions related to Sierra Leoneโs financial and development priorities.
For Sierra Leone, the conference offers an opportunity to strengthen existing relations with South Korea while exploring partnerships that could support investment, technology transfer, digital infrastructure and economic development.
The current conference builds on previous Korea-Africa engagements, including the 7th KOAFEC Ministerial Conference, which was held in Busan in 2023.
That meeting reaffirmed the partnership between Korea and Africa and produced commitments aimed at supporting sustainable and inclusive development across the continent.
The latest gathering seeks to build on that cooperation by placing digital technologies and AI at the centre of discussions about Africaโs future economic transformation.
The Embassy of Sierra Leone in Seoul said it will continue supporting the Sierra Leonean delegation throughout the conference and facilitate engagements aimed at strengthening relations between Sierra Leone and South Korea.
Sierra Leoneโs participation reflects the Governmentโs continued efforts to expand strategic international partnerships and explore opportunities for financing, investment, technology and knowledge-sharing that can contribute to inclusive and sustainable national development.
