The Executive President of the Sierra Leone Association of Women in Journalism (SLAWIJ) has responded to an illegal termination letter issued to her by the Corporate Secretary of the Association.

In a letter dated 3rd August 2023 and addressed to the Corporate Secretary of the organisation, the SLAWIJ Executive President revealed that Yeama Thompson has chosen to mislead the general public by presenting a facade board that has taken the illegal decision to terminate the Executive President. Millicent Kargbo said; “…you and I know that we are still working hard to hold our Annual General Meeting, at which we plan to establish our Board of Directors, amongst other things.” Kargbo categorically stated; “…you do not have any mandate to issue such a letter to me.”

While responding to questions at the SLBC breakfast programme, the SLAWIJ Executive President said that the decision to terminate her was never brought up at any general meeting, and is news to the general body and also the majority of the five SLAWIJ Directors. She noted that the information came as a surprise to all.

Responding to questions, Kargbo acknowledged that they are still working hard to hold their AGM in which they plan to establish their Board of Directors, amongst other things. However, she noted that the Association was mapping out ways to raise funds for the convention.

She urged the disgruntled factions involved in the malicious move to join the Association to organise the much-awaited AGM and allow the members to make all necessary decisions

In recent times, some members of the Sierra Leone Association of Women in Journalism SLAWIJ broke ranks, throwing the entire organization into a kind of chaos.

However, Concerned Civil Society and Gender Activist, Marian Stevens has urged the SLAWIJ executive to keep working hard and advance the cause of women and girls in Sierra Leone . She added that the unholy alliance against them would crumble.
