The incumbent President of the Sierra Leone Bar Association (SLBA), Madam Tuma Jabbie, was on Friday prevented from entering the premises of the venue designated to host the Association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM).
Madam Jabbie, who arrived at the venue accompanied by a group of lawyers, was stopped by police officers stationed at the entrance. The officer in charge, identified as Mohamed Mansaray, an Operations Support Division (OSD) officer based in Aberdeen, informed her that he was acting on instructions from his superiors.
Despite Madam Jabbie’s appeal for her colleagues to be allowed access to the premises, Officer Mansaray maintained that he was following directives from the Deputy Inspector General of Police and the Regional Commander.
When questioned by Madam Jabbie on whether such instructions could supersede legal provisions, the officer advised her to engage directly with his superiors, reiterating that he was only implementing the orders given to him.
Following the exchange, Madam Jabbie indicated her intention to meet with the Deputy Inspector General of Police and the Regional Commander to seek clarification on the directive .
