The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has announced plans to expand the country’s football infrastructure through the construction of additional artificial-turf facilities in different parts of Sierra Leone next year.
SLFA President Babadi Kamara made the disclosure during the Leone Rock Premier League Awards Night at the Bintumani Hotel, where he outlined plans to further improve the facilities available to footballers and communities across the country.
According to Kamara, the planned projects will target selected locations as the football governing body seeks to increase access to quality playing surfaces and create better conditions for the development of football at both grassroots and competitive levels.
Lungi has been identified as one of the areas expected to benefit from the planned artificial-turf projects.
The planned expansion is expected to provide players, clubs and young footballers with improved facilities for training and competitive matches, while also supporting the development of football talent outside Freetown.
The SLFA President has continued to place football infrastructure among the association’s priorities, with improved facilities seen as an important component of developing the sport and creating opportunities for young players.
Kamara also expressed appreciation to Leone Rock Metal Group, the Government of Sierra Leone, the Ministry of Finance, football supporters and SLFA staff for their contributions to the development of football in the country.
He further thanked President Julius Maada Bio and his government for what he described as continued financial support towards the development of football in Sierra Leone.
The planned artificial-turf projects are expected to add to the country’s existing football infrastructure and provide more communities with access to suitable facilities for football development.
