SLP Takes Force-to-Service Campaign Across Western Area
Alusine Ahmed Kargbo The Community Relations Department (CRD) of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), under the Directorate of Gender and Community Affairs, has completed a two-week outreach programme across the Western Area to strengthen police-community relations and promote the Force-to-Service transition.
The exercise covered all police stations in the Freetown East and Freetown West Police Regions, with engagements focused on promoting community-oriented policing, improving professional conduct among police personnel and strengthening public trust and confidence in the Police.
As part of the outreach, the CRD team also engaged residents in selected communities identified as potential Early Warning Signal (EWS) areas. These included Waterloo, Wellington, Moeba, Mabala, Susan’s Bay and selected communities in Goderich.
The engagements provided an opportunity for police personnel and community members to interact directly, discuss local security concerns and identify ways of strengthening cooperation in crime prevention and public safety. Residents were also encouraged to actively participate in maintaining security and supporting the work of the Police within their communities.
Through the outreach, the CRD reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening public engagement, promoting mutual understanding and fostering constructive partnerships between the Police and the communities they serve.
The completion of the programme further demonstrates the Sierra Leone Police’s commitment to the Inspector General of Police’s Force-to-Service vision, which emphasises professionalism, accountability, improved service delivery and people-centred policing.
The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by the SLP to build a more responsive, accessible and community-focused police service anchored on public trust and active community participation.
