The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has on Thursday, June 18, 2026, officially opened a Modern Blood Bank and Dental Clinic at the Police Hospital to boost healthcare services for police personnel and their families across the country.

The new facilities are part of the SLP’s ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive medical services, ensuring timely blood supply management, and improving oral health care for officers and their dependants.

The event was graced by Regional Police Commanders in Freetown, AIG Sylvester M. N. Koroma, AIG John Martin Senesie, Director of Operations, ACP Allieu Turay, and other senior officials, alongside representatives from the Dental Association, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and civil society.

Delivering the keynote address on behalf of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Deputy Inspector General of Police, Sahr Yomba Senesi, emphasized the significance of the project, describing it as a historic milestone for the Sierra Leone Police. He highlighted that the establishment of these facilities demonstrates the leadership’s dedication to improving healthcare access and overall welfare for police officers.

DIG Senesi also underscored the importance of oral health, noting that good dental care contributes significantly to the well-being and operational efficiency of police personnel.

Representing the Minister of Internal Affairs, Permanent Secretary Edwards Ngaujah commended the police leadership for prioritizing health and wellbeing initiatives. He affirmed that the development aligns with the Ministry’s strategic plan to transform the Sierra Leone Police into a professional, efficient, and service-oriented institution.

Additionally, the Director of Medical Service, AIG Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim Jalloh, shared that the project was conceived several years ago as part of the broader transformation of the Police Hospital.

He recounted the hospital’s evolution from a small Medical Inspection room to a fully equipped medical facility housing specialized units, including the newly unveiled Blood Bank and Dental Clinic.

The event concluded with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting, the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, and an inspection of the new Blood Bank and Dental Clinic.
