SLRSA Strengthens Partnership With Chinese Embassy Ahead of 55th China–Sierra Leone Friendship Anniversary
Sia Lucy Kannah Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA), James Baggie Bio, has held a strategic engagement with the Deputy Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Ambassador Zhang Dianbin, to discuss potential collaborations aimed at strengthening Sierra Leone’s road safety sector.
The meeting comes ahead of the 55th anniversary celebration of diplomatic relations and friendship between China and Sierra Leone.
During the engagement, Mr. Bio highlighted the increasing number of Chinese-manufactured vehicles entering the Sierra Leonean market. While commending the growing partnership and the contribution of Chinese automobile manufacturers to the country’s transport sector, he emphasized the urgent need for specialized training for SLRSA vehicle examiners to enhance their technical expertise and facilitate effective technology transfer.
He noted that such capacity-building initiatives would greatly improve the Authority’s ability to efficiently inspect and regulate modern vehicle technologies now being introduced into the Sierra Leonean transport system.
Furthermore, in his response, Ambassador Zhang Dianbin acknowledged the longstanding and cordial relationship between China and Sierra Leone, noting that both countries have continued to enjoy strong diplomatic ties in areas including politics, trade, education, infrastructure, and economic cooperation over the past 55 years.
The Deputy Ambassador expressed satisfaction with the growing presence of Chinese vehicle manufacturers in Sierra Leone and welcomed the proposal for technical training and capacity enhancement for SLRSA staff.
Ambassador Zhang further assured the SLRSA delegation that he would engage authorities in Beijing to explore possible areas of support, particularly in staff training and logistical assistance for the Authority.
Finally, Mr. Bio thanked the Chinese Embassy and the Government of China for their continued support of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority, especially for providing in-service training opportunities for staff to strengthen institutional capacity and improve operational efficiency.
