Sierra Leone’s Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Dr. Abass Bundu has urged all authorities to fall heavily on the manufacturers, importers, and distributors of synthetic drug, Kush.

Bundu said that some of the authorities are closer with these people and the action has to be very robust now and must not leave no one found wanting in the act, adding that, the fight can be won through a joint effort at national, regional, and international levels to deal effectively with the manufacture, distributors, and marketing of these drugs across borders.

He added that the availability of the drugs in the market is also luring them into taking them, but once the supply chain is dealt with there will be a positive result in the fight.

“Unless this is done quickly, the menace will continue to grow, and soon it will become a serious threat to our national security and the future of our nation,” he stated.

He recommended an urgent need for new policies from the government and legislation from the Parliament of Sierra Leone to help fight and solve this issue as quickly as possible as well as called on all relevant committees of Parliament to work together and propose prompt and effective measures to address the problem.

He maintained that the fight needs an immediate reaction to protect the lives of the citizens and the country at large, adding that, these actions in combating the Kush will come first from the inside and not to wait for external forces and that, the fight should be owned by every Sierra Leonean for a positive result.
