The Sierra Leone National Stadium (Siaka Steven Stadium) is to be ready for use in early 2024 as the project which cost $40million has been greatly intensified to catch up with the allocated time.
The project description involved the transformation of every part of the national asset and it is recorded to be one of the largest and most intensive rehabilitation done for over 40 years of construction which was completed on 18th April, 1979.
The Ministry of Sport in collaboration with the Chinese Embassy have charged a Chinese construction company with the responsibility to rebrand the stadium which is one of the biggest in the continent.
It can be recalled that, in February 2021, the stadium was banned by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after a goalless draw for Leone Stars against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in November 2020 during the 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifier. Upon its completion, the stadium will be amongst the best in Africa having international best standards according sources.
