Ahead of National Census

Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL) held a Training of Trainers workshop at Sella Spot in Freetown on Thursday, July 2, 2026, as part of preparations for the upcoming Population and Housing Census.

The workshop brought together selected participants who will serve as master trainers and are expected to train supervisors and enumerators who will conduct the nationwide census exercise.

Speaking at the event, Census Implementation Coordinator, James Alieu Medo, described the training as a critical step toward ensuring the success of the census. He explained that the master trainers will be equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively prepare field personnel for data collection.

He emphasized that a well-trained workforce is essential to the credibility of the exercise, noting that accurate population data is vital for national planning, policy formulation, and sustainable development.

Mr. Medo also called on citizens to fully participate in the census by cooperating with officials and providing accurate information during the exercise.

The Population and Housing Census is expected to generate updated demographic and housing data that will guide government decision-making, resource allocation, and development planning across Sierra Leone.
