A total of 368 candidates have had their May and June West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results withheld over unpaid examination fees amounting to Le114,093 across five private schools.

According to statements by the Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Conrad Sackey, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) excluded the affected candidates’ results from the batch released to the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) on Friday, October 23, because their respective schools had failed to settle their outstanding financial obligations.

Officials emphasised that the students were not responsible for the situation, noting that the debt rests solely with the affected schools.

The breakdown of the outstanding fees across the five institutions is as follows:

Great High School of Science and Business: 69 candidates; Le43,194 owed.

Royal International School: 38 candidates; Le23,788 owed.

Faith Walk Academy Senior Secondary School: 32 candidates; Le20,032 outstanding.

Rev. Christian International High School: 22 candidates; Le13,771 outstanding.

Globe International: 22 candidates; Le13,308 outstanding.

The proprietors of the affected schools have been urged to settle their outstanding arrears urgently to facilitate the release of the withheld results.

Authorities have stressed that students should not suffer academic setbacks because of administrative failures or unpaid examination fees by school management. They have also underscored the importance of ensuring that candidates receive their examination results without being disadvantaged by financial obligations for which they are not responsible.
