The Surgeon in Action Foundation, a Spanish medical organization, has improved healthcare services at the Sierra Leone Police Hospital through free surgical operations and the donation of advanced medical equipment.
The initiative includes a series of free surgical operations and the donation of advanced medical equipment aimed at enhancing medical support for police officers, their families, and the broader community.
Under the leadership of Inspector General of Police William Fayia Sellu, the partnership has focused on expanding healthcare access to underserved regions, including Bonthe, Lungi, Kono, and Kailahun. ASP Dr. John Mumuneh Konteh, the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, has played a crucial role in this effort.
Recently, the foundation donated surgical equipment valued at over seventy thousand US dollars, significantly upgrading the hospital’s medical capabilities. As part of this initiative, 199 patients benefited from free surgeries.
The procedures performed ranged from hernia repairs (143 cases) to lipomas (19), thyroidectomies (27), orchidectomies (1), goitre removal (1), hernioplasty (1), and cystectomy (1).
The medical team involved in those operations expressed their commitment to the development of Sierra Leone’s healthcare system and appreciated the warm reception from the police management.
In addition to providing immediate medical support, the foundation announced plans to offer a full scholarship to a hospital staff member for advanced training in a specialized medical field.
